Cybersecurity Skills Needs Analysis in Spain

Spain has become a prominent player in European cybersecurity, yet faces challenges, particularly a shortage of skilled professionals for key roles like cybersecurity implementers, architects, and incident responders. Rapid technological advances and sophisticated cyber threats demand specialised training, particularly in programming and system architecture. The country also experiences a “brain drain” as experts seek opportunities abroad, while the public sector struggles to meet cybersecurity needs, leaving national infrastructure vulnerable.

The Cybersecurity Skills Needs Analysis, conducted by CyberHub Spain, identifies critical gaps in Spain’s cybersecurity workforce, especially in ENISA roles that require strengthened educational programmes, training, and technological capacity.

Spain’s national cybersecurity strategy, aligned with regulatory and technological growth, fosters job creation and supports demand for expertise. The highest-priority roles include Cybersecurity Implementer, Architect, and Incident Responder, all requiring strong hard skills. While positions like Chief Information Security Officer and cyber threat intelligence are well-covered, the public sector remains the weakest link in need of skilled professionals. Enhanced training programmes and industry-academia collaboration are essential to achieve Spain’s cybersecurity goals.
