European Cybersecurity Skills Framework – a key enabler for CyberHubs across all work stages

The European Cybersecurity Skills Framework (ECSF) launched by ENISA in September 2022 provides a representative set of 12 role profiles for cybersecurity professionals that are typically required and applied by the cyber secure organisation.

The CyberHubs initiative uses the framework as a key ingredient of a common European language for cybersecurity professional workforce development in the short, mid and long term. The framework is used as a reference point across all project stages and outputs internally and externally, providing the needed basis of common understanding to take joint action across country and stakeholder perspectives.

The first important step of the project, the cybersecurity professional roles and skills needs analysis carried out in 7 European countries, helps to understand which of the 12 cybersecurity profiles are of particular demand in each country, together with the most demanded skills. These results will be translated in a next step into national cybersecurity strategies, backed by a forecasting model allowing for regular updates on cybersecurity professional roles and skills needs on national levels with a solid connection to the broader European digital and cybersecurity context.

The ECSF thus provides essential guidance and support to the CyberHubs consortium’s joint efforts towards strengthening cybersecurity culture in the countries and on European level, as an essential step forward towards Europe’s digital future.

Thus, CyberHubs makes best benefits of using the ECSF identified to be:

Ensuring a common terminology and shared understanding regarding cybersecurity professionals across the EU;
Identifying the critical skills-set required from the perspective of the cybersecurity workforce to support its further development and enhancement;
Promoting harmonisation in cybersecurity education, training and workforce development programmes;

In order to strengthen European cybersecurity culture across communities, taking an essential step forward towards Europe’s digital future.
